Darryl Elksnis is the President and CEO of Life Safety Designs, Inc. Born in Baltimore, Maryland, Mr. Elksnis relocated to Jacksonville, Florida in 1986 after attending the University of Maryland – Baltimore County construction management program. Originally employed by W.W. Gay Mechanical, one of the largest mechanical contractors in the southeast, Mr. Elksnis was assigned to the fire protection division. During his ten-year career at W.W. Gay Fire Protection, Mr. Elksnis ascended to the position of Vice President of Operations.
In 1997, Mr. Elksnis left W.W. Gay Fire Protection and joined LSDI as President and majority owner. During his tenure in the fire protection and security industry, Mr. Elksnis attained electrical licenses in Florida and Georgia, NICET Level 4 Special Hazards Suppression Systems and Fire Alarm Systems Certifications, and RCDD Certification, which is the highest level of voice / data infrastructure design competency achievable. Throughout his distinguished career, Mr. Elksnis has acquired a wealth of knowledge and experience in the fire protection, security, and voice data infrastructure fields.
Under the leadership of Darryl Elksnis, LSDI evolved from a four-person operation into a multi-million dollar enterprise with approximately fifty employees.

Grant Gardner is the Vice President and Director of Field Operations at Life Safety Designs, Inc. Born and raised in Minnesota, Mr. Gardner relocated to Jacksonville, Florida following an honorable discharge from the United States Navy. He expanded upon his Navy provided fire protection knowledge at Jacksonville Fire and Safety, where he was promoted to Assistant General Manager. Further broadening his fire protection experience, Mr. Gardner served as a technician at W.W. Gay Fire Protection and as a fire sprinkler inspector for Automatic Sprinkler Company.
In the early days of LSDI, Mr. Gardner served as the company’s lone technician. As LSDI expanded, Mr. Gardner filled many roles. With 27 years of fire protection experience, Grant Gardner is perfectly suited for his current role of Vice President and Director of Field Operations.
Project Manager / System Design Coordinator

Tom Pounds serves both as a Systems Design Coordinator and Project Manager for Life Safety Designs, Inc. He earned an Associate of Science for Electronics Engineering Technology degree from ITT Technical Institute in 1998. Mr. Pounds’ hard work, sharp mind, and loyalty propelled his career at LSDI forward, having worked diligently through the ranks since he first joined the company as a helper. In addition to serving at LSDI, Mr. Pounds gained service technician experience at Owen Electric and Mowery Elevator.
Since graduation, Mr. Pounds continues to amass an impressive resume of Industry and Manufacturer Certifications. He currently holds a NICET Level III Fire Alarm Systems Certification. He also earned advanced factory certifications from Notifier, Cooper Notification (Installer and Technician), Axis Communications, and Retrotec. Undoubtedly, Mr. Pounds will continue to better himself and LSDI by earning additional certifications.

Steve Platt is the Chief Operations Officer at Life Safety Designs, Inc. As the COO, he is responsible for the oversight of internal systems and operations for LSDI. A native of Atlanta, Georgia, Steve graduated from the Georgia Institute of Technology (Georgia Tech) in 1999, earning a degree in Management.
Prior to joining Life Safety Designs in 2007, Mr. Platt complemented his technological education with relevant work experience across several industries. At each position, he gained valuable experience that he continues to utilize at LSDI. Mr. Platt formally entered the construction industry as a college intern with The Winter Construction Company. After graduating from Georgia Tech, he joined Winter Construction as an Office Engineer. A successful tenure as an Owner / Operator for Chick-fil-A further developed operational and managerial skills, preparing him to join LSDI with a thorough understanding of the importance of effective and efficient operational systems.
